The year is 2002. Cathy Guisewite abandons form on this unusual comic strip. Critics hail it as refreshing yet cryptic in its anomalistic use of iconoclastic imagery. Debate will rage for years as to the actual meaning of the strip, with theories ranging from a veiled defense of the No Child Left Behind program to a dispute over Cartoonist's Union dues. Guisewite herself will only comment that she is "not answerable to any man and that the comic strip can stand on its own". It is on paper because computers  will not be invented for another three years.
